Steps
to a Career in Real Estate
The
requirements for obtaining a real estate license in the State of Kansas
are set by the Kansas Real Estate Commission
Are
you Qualified?
- You must be 18
years of age
- You must have a
high school diploma or equivalent
- You must be a resident
of the State of Kansas
- You must swear
to being a person of honesty and integrity
The Course
- You must complete
a 30 hour course entitled "Principles of Real Estate"
- This course is
offered by SREI. The class covers a tremendous amount of information,
some of which you may already know, especially if you have purchased
or sold a house recently. This course prepares you for the licencing
test.
- Be prepared to
work hard. We prefer to give the class over 3 full days and that you
take the test as soon after the class as possible. The numbers are very
clear. The pass rates on on the test decline significantly as the duration
of the class and the time between completing the class and taking the
test increases. For this reason, we offer the class on a Friday, Saturday,
Sunday schedule (10 hours each day) and we encourage you to take the
test immediately following.
2. Upon
completion of the class you will receive the a certificate. You are required
to provide this certificate at the time of testing.
The Test
- The law requires
that the testing be conducted by a separate agency.
- There are two sections,
the first being 80 multiple choice questions about general real estate
The second is 30 multiple choice questions about Kansas Real Estate
Law
- You must pass both
sections by 70%.
- If you should fail
either section, you will be required to retake only the section you
failed.
- When you have passed
both sections, you will receive another certificate. Your class certificate
and test certificate are required to make application for licensing.
The License Application
- The certificate
you receive upon completing the Principles of Real Estate also serves
as your license application.
- Complete the application
and mail it in with the appropriate fee and your temporary license will
soon be received by your broker.
Post License
- Your temporary
license is good for six months. During that time you must complete the
Required Salesperson's Post License Course which contains more practical
applications.
- Great news! There
is no test.
- Upon completion
of the course, you will receive your permanent license.
Continuing Education
- You must complete
12 hours of education every two year for license renewal.
